The teacher training
component will introduce teachers to the conceptual
framework of the BioMedical Faces of Science® (BFS)
supplemental program for science and non science
teachers. The BFS® supplemental program consists of
science training manuals and a DVD containing a
“biography”, “conversation” and an interactive science
“simulation” for each of the six featured role model
scientists. The BFS® supplemental program also includes
a database of more than 400 scientists, many of whom
have agreed to serve as student mentors.
After participation in the BFS® teacher training
component program, K-12 teachers are able to apply the
technology to meet the needs and interests of their
students. This intensive training empowers teachers to
use the interactive multimedia tools technology, as well
as to develop concrete materials for immediate use with
their students.
Teachers experiencing the training will: |
|
|
| |
|
- Become familiar with
the use of multimedia technology of sciences;
- Take ownership in
the importance of utilizing minority and women role
models in the teaching of science and mathematics;
- Develop/enhance an
awareness of the cultural differences among students
and how those differences impact the learning
process;
- Be able to create a
renewed excitement and enthusiasm for learning and
teaching of science through the use of diverse role
model scientists; and
- Gain a resource
which brings current and important science topics to
their classroom.
