She completed postdoctoral training in cellular and molecular endocrinology at the University of California-Riverside.
After receiving her PhD from the University of Iowa, Dr. Murray took a post-doc at the University of California, Riverside. At the end of her post-doc in 1982, Murray took a position at the University of Pittsburgh. She was awarded tenure in 1989.
