    Dr. Keith C. Norris, named one of the “America’s Leading Doctors” by Black Enterprise Magazine (2008), is the Principal Investigator of the Transitional Research Network (RTRN). The grant funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will establish the network to increase the opportunity for multi-site clinical and translational research among minority and other collaborating institutions throughout the nation. His research interests focuses on the prevention and early treatment of chronic kidney disease, with an emphasis on improving outcomes for African American and Latino populations. Other areas include the role of Vitamin D in Chronic Kidney Disease, Calcium management in the end stage of Renal Disease, and Hypertension.

Dr. Norris received his undergraduate diploma from Cornell University. He earned his M.D. from Howard University School of Medicine in Washington D.C, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. His postgraduate training included an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Howard University Hospital, where he also served as Chief resident. Also he received fellowships in Nephrology at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine and Wadsworth Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in metaphysics, spirituality, and holistic health at the College of Metaphysical Studies and New Age Ministries in Clearwater, Florida.

Dr. Keith Norris is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and holds a dual appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

In addition to RTRN, he is actively involved by serving as PI or Co-PI for eleven NIH sponsored trials, researching various health disparities in chronic kidney disease, testosterone and muscle function to name a few. His research has been disseminated in the form of over 100 papers, including journal articles, reviews, and textbook chapters.

Dr. Norris has received numerous awards and honors including Nephrology Section Chair – National Medical Association; Teacher of the Year Award, King/Drew Medical Center Department of Medicine; National Association of Minority Nephrologists- President; National Kidney Foundation Recognition Award; Peter Lundin, M.D. Award, American Society of Hypertension Specialist in Clinical Hypertension; Southern Area Clergy Council “Light of our Life” Recognition Award; Induction into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame (Science); Fellow American College of Physicians; and American Association of Kidney Patients Medal of Honor Nominee.
