The database, of over 1000 scientists in the United States and Canada, introduces students to diverse scientific careers and people who can also become role models for them. The suggested activities in this section will help you locate scientists from your area who can serve as role models. The activities also suggest ways to make the role-model experience a profound and lasting one for your students.

Providing Scientist Role Models through the BFS Database developers contacted scientists all over the country-in research laboratories, universities, and businesses-and asked them to participate in this project. The response was overwhelming, and the result is a large database of scientists detailing their backgrounds and interests, as well as the jobs waiting for your students to explore.
